Handgun Training- 1 Day Format The NRA Basic Pistol Course

The NRA Basic Pistol Course is a comprehensive introduction to handgun ownership and is recognized by FL State for a concealed weapons permit.

We start no later than 9:00 AM and finish at about 4:30 PM. The finishing time really depends upon the enthusiasm of the students.

We take special care to ensure that each student achieves the best they can be on any given day.   

The course is ideally suited to those that have had no formal training in the past or have just become handgun owners. Many more seasoned pistol owners have also found the course very useful to improve their shooting fundamentals.

During the course some of the subjects covered include safety, handgun operation, gun handling, ammunition, clearing malfunctions and shooting fundamentals. Considerations are also given to handgun selection, cleaning, storage as well as your legal rights as a gun owner.

The course lasts for a full day. The majority of the time is spent in the classroom, but there is ample time to put theory into practice at the range. Some classes have lasted well after the official finishing time, dependning upon some of the students' entusism to keep shooting after attaining the minimum course requirement. We normally offer the NRA Basic Pistol Course every second Sunday of the month, although we occassionally have to move it to another weekend depending upon our match schedule.

All courses are taught by experienced certified instructors. All Red Dot Shooting Instructors are accomplished competition shooters in their own right so we can offer the student tips gained form many years of experience. It would be safe to say that most of our instrcutors have shot more than a million rounds down range during their shooting careers! 

When attending our training please remember to bring eye and ear protection, if not we can provide them for you. 

During the hot summer you may find it useful to bring a towell or even a change of clothes before driving home. Feel free to bring your own handgun and ammo. We also have a number of handguns available to rent for those that dont own or cant borrow a handgun.

 

NO firearms or ammo is allowed in the classroom so please ask an instructor where it can be stowed safely and securely.

Cofee, soft drinks and donuts are always provided for breakfast!
